Environmental policy

Tuunaajamutsi workshops have been granted the national Green Activities certificate.

The mission of Tuunaajamutsi is to promote practical circular economy at the company and individual level by organising inspiring and communal arts and crafts workshops, where the participants reuse recycled or waste material provided by the client company, participants or Tuunaajamutsi in a creative way. The participants make usable recycled products for themselves or co-create installations from recycled materials for their office or work environment. A workshop is also a concrete way of demonstrating the values of sustainable development, and the participants learn that waste can be a valuable material.

I want to use my business to promote especially the twelfth UN Sustainable Development Goal (Responsible Consumption and Production) by reducing waste through recycling and reuse.

I help my clients by, for example:

  • coming up with new purposes for waste material, designing new products from waste material and planning activities where waste material could be utilised

  • inspiring my clients and other stakeholders view waste as a valuable raw material

Tuunaajamutsi follows these environmental principles:

  • The main material used in arts and crafts activities is always surplus, waste or recycled material.

  • I always select the most eco-friendly glues, paints, and other similar new supplies best suited for their intended purpose. For example, glues and paints that do not contain solvents.

  • I avoid unnecessary car travel by organising remote meetings and virtual activities.

  • I minimise the amount of waste generated by reusing or donating surplus workshop material to, for example, day-care centres and schools. All waste material is sorted. I avoid mixed waste.

  •  I am constantly developing my business operations by committing to the principles of the Green Activities certification.

Carbon footprint

  • The carbon footprint of Tuunaajamutsi is 838 kg per year. It is produced by the electricity, heating and waste management of the business office space and traffic emissions.

  • The emission level of the actual workshops is minimal, because the participants use recycled materials and hand tools. The hand tools’ carbon footprint has not been estimated, because their footprint is almost non-existent. The tools are used by hundreds and thousands of people over many years. All the materials used at Tuunaajamutsi workshops are recycled, so their carbon footprint is zero.

  • The carbon footprint of power tools (sewing machines) has been calculated for each product. The carbon footprint of a two-hour workshop with five sewing machines in use is 0.14 kg.

  • The carbon footprint of a two-hour virtual workshop is 0.014 kg.
